Gary Theodore Wagner was born on July 5, 1962, in Ankara, Turkey, to German parents — Wolfgang von Wagner, a medical doctor, and Helene Wagner, a pediatric nurse. His early years were shaped by the diverse cultural environments of Turkey before he relocated to Richmond, Virginia at the age of 14.
There he completed his high school education before pursuing higher studies at Texas State University. In 1985 he graduated with double majors in Biology and Biochemistry, marking the beginning of his distinguished academic and professional journey in biotechnology.

Gary began his distinguished career serving across three major Virginia state departments — the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Virginia Department of Health, and the Virginia Department of Forestry. Over 14 years he developed deep expertise in applied biotechnology across agriculture, public health and environmental management.
2000 — Present
In 2000, Gary founded Virgotech — transitioning from public service to private consulting with a vision to deliver cutting-edge biotechnology solutions globally. Under his leadership Virgotech has grown into a internationally recognized biotechnology company operating across agricultural, industrial and marine sectors in over 8 countries worldwide.
